Brazil 13 Days European Valley + Santa Catarina Mountains Bike Tour

General Overview

For the first time, two of Brazil’s most outstanding cycling routes are combined into one seamless journey. This 13-day expedition links the cultural richness of the European Valley with the dramatic landscapes of the Santa Catarina Mountains, creating a diverse and rewarding experience on two wheels.

The journey begins in the Vale Europeu, a region shaped by German and Italian heritage. Over approximately 300 kilometers, the circular route starts and ends in Timbó, passing through a series of charming towns where traditional architecture, rural landscapes, rivers, and forested hills define the scenery. From the valleys, the route continues into the Serra Catarinense, based in Urubici. This second stage covers around 270 kilometers and features some of the most scenic mountain roads in South America, including the Serra do Rio do Rastro and Serra do Corvo Branco. Along the way, riders encounter waterfalls, viewpoints, and high-altitude landscapes that contrast sharply with the earlier days of the trip.

Itinerary:

  • Our executive vehicle departs from the Navegantes Airport area in Santa Catarina, Brazil, bound for the city of Timbó (SC), the starting point of the Vale Europeu Circuit. In the evening, we will hold an expedition briefing, make final adjustments to the bicycles, and present the schedule for the coming days.

  • The journey begins in the scenic European Valley, where quiet rural roads, traditional farms, and charming communities offer a glimpse into the region’s heritage and relaxed way of life. Along the way, cyclists enjoy a mix of cultural highlights, scenic climbs, and optional adrenaline activities, creating a perfect balance of adventure, nature, and memorable experiences.

  • Ride through Brazil’s European Valley surrounded by lush forests, rivers, and waterfalls, enjoying one of the most scenic and refreshing stages of the journey. The day’s highlight is a stop at the stunning Bridal Veil Waterfall, a perfect place to relax, take photos, and soak in the region’s natural beauty.

  • Ride through the scenic European Valley, where rolling hills, palm-lined roads, and charming historic bridges create a constantly evolving backdrop, with highlights like Rio Bonito Lake and the picturesque Milanese Covered Bridge. The day blends peaceful countryside with excitement, from the flowing Milanese Descent to the rewarding Carolina’s Ascent, capturing the region’s unique mix of natural beauty and European-inspired heritage.

  • Cycle through Brazil’s European Valley along the Enxaimel Route, where half-timbered houses, historic bridges, and charming countryside reflect the region’s rich German heritage. This relaxed yet immersive day blends scenic riding with cultural experiences, including artisanal chocolate tasting and a visit with a local family, ending with rewarding views from Carolina’s Ascent.

  • Our last day follows a scenic route back to Timbó via Indaial, highlighted by the memorable crossing of the Warnow Suspension Bridge. We finish by celebrating the completion of the Vale Europeu Circuit, closing an unforgettable journey through culture and landscapes.

  • We leave the European Valley behind and journey to the mountain town of Urubici, where rolling countryside gives way to the dramatic highlands of the Serra Catarinense. After settling into our mountain lodge, we enjoy an introductory ride through this rugged landscape, marking an exciting transition into the next phase of the adventure.

  • We depart the European Valley and travel to Urubici, where gentle countryside transforms into the dramatic highlands of the Serra Catarinense. After settling into our mountain lodge, an introductory ride offers a first taste of this rugged new terrain.

  • Ride from the highlands into the dramatic landscapes of the Serra Catarinense, passing rural farms and off-road sections that reveal authentic local life. The day culminates with the iconic climb through Serra do Corvo Branco and a peaceful visit to the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes.

  • A relaxed circular ride through the peaceful highlands of Urubici, offering ever-changing views of the stunning Serra landscape. The day’s highlight is a visit to Morro do Campestre, where unique rock formations and sweeping panoramas provide a memorable finale.

  • One of the most spectacular days of the journey, cycling through the wild landscapes of the Serra Catarinense toward the dramatic Espraiado Canyon. A challenging yet rewarding ride, marked by vast mountain views, deep valleys, and one unforgettable panoramic highlight.

  • One of the toughest yet most rewarding days, featuring a sustained climb to Abrigo 1500 through remote mountain landscapes, balanced by exhilarating descents on the return. Highlights include Rio dos Bugres Waterfall, a traditional summit treat, and a well-earned finish with a classic Brazilian churrasco.

  • After breakfast, we transfer to the airport, reflecting on a journey that revealed the rich landscapes and cultures of southern Brazil. From European-style valleys to the rugged Serra Catarinense highlands, this cycling adventure ends with unforgettable memories.
