Itinerary
Your adventure begins in the morning, with pickup from your hotel in Quito between 7:00 and 7:30 AM. As you leave the city behind, you'll head east into the Andes, traveling along a scenic mountain road that offers breathtaking views of lush valleys and snowcapped peaks. The drive to Papallacta takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, giving you time to enjoy the changing landscapes as you ascend to over 3,000 meters (10,000 feet) above sea level.
Upon arrival at the Termas de Papallacta complex, your guide will lead you on a short and peaceful walk through the private ecological trails of the hot springs reserve. This trail winds alongside a pristine river and through a cloud forest habitat, where you may spot native Andean flora and fauna, including hummingbirds and orchids. The walk is easy and refreshing, perfect for acclimating to the altitude and connecting with nature.
After the walk, you'll have time to fully immerse yourself in the healing waters of the natural thermal pools. With several pools of varying temperatures, you can relax and unwind as you soak in the mineral-rich waters while surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery. The warm thermal waters are known for their therapeutic properties and are ideal for soothing sore muscles and relieving stress.
In the early afternoon, you'll have a bit more time to enjoy the pools or simply rest and take in the tranquil environment before beginning the return journey to Quito. You’ll depart Papallacta around 1:30 or 2:00 PM, arriving back in the city by late afternoon or early evening, refreshed and recharged after a day of wellness, nature, and relaxation in the high Andes.
