Itinerary
At 8:00 AM, we depart from Quito for an unforgettable biking tour in Ecuador. After a scenic 45-minute drive east by jeep, we arrive at the town of Pintag, the gateway to Antisana’s protected area. From here, we continue for about an hour through the expansive plains of this magnificent volcano, reaching an altitude of 4,000 meters (13,000 feet) at La Mica Lake. This stunning location offers serene surroundings and panoramic views, perfect for appreciating the raw beauty of Ecuador’s highlands.
Antisana, standing at 5,705 meters (18,700 feet), is Ecuador’s fourth-highest volcano and one of its most breathtaking natural wonders. Its vast páramo landscapes are home to unique endemic plants and endangered wildlife, including the majestic Andean condor, Ecuador’s national emblem.
At La Mica Lake, we begin our exhilarating 30-kilometer (18.6-mile) biking adventure back to Pintag. The first 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) are relatively flat, followed by a gradual ascent over 2 kilometers (1.3 miles) as we reach the highest point of the pass.
From there, an exciting downhill ride takes us through diverse landscapes, leading to the park entrance, where the bike tour in Ecuador concludes. Along the way, we stop to enjoy a hearty box lunch, surrounded by stunning scenery. The route includes a mix of downhill stretches, flat sections, and some uphill challenges, ensuring an exciting and varied ride.
