General Overview

Peru offers some of the most varied and rewarding cycling in South America. This journey connects the country’s most iconic regions, combining high mountain passes, remote valleys, and cultural highlights into one well-paced itinerary.

Starting in Arequipa, the route leads through the dramatic landscapes of Colca Canyon, across the wide-open Altiplano near Lake Titicaca, and into the heart of the Inca world around Cusco and the Sacred Valley. Along the way, you’ll experience a mix of long descents, steady climbs, and scenic rides at altitude, supported by transfers where needed to focus on the best cycling sections. The route also includes time to explore key cultural sites such as Machu Picchu and local communities that remain closely connected to their traditions.

  • From Cabanillas, the cycling stage begins with a gradual ascent towards a high mountain pass. This ride offers open altiplano landscapes, with wide views and relatively gentle gradients. After reaching the pass, a final descent brings you down towards Puno, located on the shores of Lake Titicaca.

  • Today is a non-cycling day, dedicated to exploring Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. A full-day boat excursion begins from Puno with a visit to the floating reed islands of the Uros. The journey then continues to Taquile Island, located about three hours further across the lake.
