Altitude sickness occurs when your body doesn’t have enough time to adjust to lower oxygen levels at high elevations—typically above 2,500 meters (8,200 ft). Symptoms may include headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, and shortness of breath.

Avoid rapid ascents to high altitude if possible, plan for gradual elevation gain.
Rest on your first day at altitude (especially in cities like Quito at 2,850m / 9,350 ft).
Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, but avoid overhydration.
Eat light, easy-to-digest meals to reduce stress on your body.
Avoid alcohol and limit caffeine during the first 24 hours.
Dress in warm layers to prevent cold-related fatigue.
Take frequent breaks during activities, don’t push your limits.
Try local remedies, like coca tea or soroche pills (available at most pharmacies in Ecuador).
Watch for symptoms: headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath.
Protect yourself from the sun—UV is stronger at high altitude. Use sunscreen and sunglasses.
Pack essentials: water bottle, electrolytes, personal medication, and warm clothing.

Pick-ups will take place at 7:30 AM from Hotel Finlandia. All our partner hotels are located within a 5 to 10-minute walking distance from this meeting point.
